Mental Health Expert-by-Experience Adviser
Harrow Adult Social Care wants to change how it involves Harrow residents in the development of community support services. From 2021 the intention is to introduce a co-production approach. The term ‘co-production’ simply means local people being fully involved in the planning and decisions for services from the start, to inform what is needed locally to support people with improving and maintaining their mental wellbeing.
How will we do this?
In partnership with Mind in Harrow we are therefore jointly recruiting to new Expert-by-experience adviser roles, who will work with residents in their local area to gather and represent the views of people who may require additional support from health and social care to manage their mental health and well-being.
To apply for the role you will be someone with lived experience of receiving support with your mental health and well-being either through your GP or from community mental health services, and are interested in contributing to how the planning and development of support in the community can be shaped to best meet people’s needs in their recovery.
You will have both the enthusiasm and ideas to help improve and change services for the mental health and wellbeing of Harrow residents and are someone who is confident in providing suggestions on how together we can develop solutions.
What will be involved?
- You will become a member of the Expert by Experience Advisory group and can choose to take part in either one or several ways for example:
- Talking to individuals in your local community as part of a small borough-wide team, and carrying out interview and surveys
- Being a member of a discussion group or attending workshops
- Representing the proposals from the Advisory group as a member of the Co-production steering group
Will there be support and training?
There will be an induction and on-going support and guidance for the role from Mind in Harrow.
All successful applicants will be provided with initial training on the role during January 2021.
