Carers Week takes place from 8-14 June 2020 across the UK. The theme is Making Caring Visible. It is an annual awareness campaign which takes place recognise the vital contribution made by the UK’s 6.5 million carers.
It is also a time of intensive local activity with hundreds of virtual events planned for carers across the UK. Website: www.carersweek.org
New figures released for Carers Week (8th – 14th June 2020) show an estimated 4.5 million people in the UK have become unpaid carers as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. This is on top of the 9.1 million unpaid carers who were already caring before the outbreak, bringing the total to 13.6 million.
What is a carer?
A carer is someone who provides unpaid care and support to a family member or friend who has a disability, illness, mental health condition or who needs extra help as they grow older.
At Mind in Harrow we have pledged our support for Carers Week and are committed to making caring visible. If you are a carer in Harrow or someone who is, remember our helpline (020 8426 0929) is there to support and signpost. Give us a call!
We recently collaborated with Carers UK and have produced a leaflet with tips on how carers can be kind to themselves. If you would like to read it, download it here and feel free to pass on and share with others.
Also visit Harrow Carers’ website – they are running different fun activities and courses on Zoom. Let them know which of these you would like to join and they will give you a code and password to access them. If you would like more information about any of their activities or have any questions about joining, please call them on 0208 868 5224 or e-mail them: communications@harrowcarers.org. You can find their programme for the week here and more information about them here.
We also want to extend a BIG thank you to all the carers out there who work tirelessly every day to make a difference to so many lives. Thanks for everything you do.
